Advanced Writing E-Portfolio

This page features original work by Jack Stevens completed during ENGW3002: Advanced Writing in Tech. There are several pieces that aim to increase understanding of specific areas in engineering industries or concentrations such as automation, micro-mobility, manufacturing and aerospace. In addition to this, these assignment concentrate on fundamental writing skills and aim to improve skills in professional environments.

About Me

My name is Jack Stevens, I am third year mechanical engineering student, studying at Northeastern University. I am interested in automation technology and the automotive industry and have tried to pursue these areas in school, industry and in spare time. I currently lead the structural system for Northeastern Electric Racing, an undergraduate engineering club that designs, fabricates and races an open wheel formula style race car. It is a lot of fun and keeps me building a wonderful skillset. Outside of the academic environment I keep up with Formula 1 racing and enjoy driving a car of my own.

My professional experience started with my first coop, at a small start up in Burlington, Massachusetts called MatrixSpace, Inc. There I was one of 2 mechanical engineers who developed small form factor UAV's to carry advanced perception technology. I juxtaposed this with my second coop at Amazon Robotics, where I help develop a fleet of autonomous drive units that carry packages throughout distribution centers to get packages to consumers as fast as possible.

In the future I hope to continue working on autonomous systems and developing automation technology to improve everyone's quality of life!

Featured Work

Lines of Inquiry

Automation Discourse Communiteis

The Lines of Inquiry assignment aims to identify and elucidate the discourse communities present in a particular area of study. In my case, I concentrated on communities related to automation technology in various industries including manufacturing and robotics assessed how each group approaches and executes discourse.

Annotated Bibliography

Analysis of Secondhand Research

The purpose of the Annotated Bibliography assignment is to evaluate pre-existing scholarly works pertaining to a precisely delimited subject matter, with the aim of harnessing it to compose a comprehensive research plan. I focussed on automation technology in robotic systems, delving into multiple peer reviewed research paper and credible sources.

Research Plan

Firsthand Research Analysis

The research design assigned involved strategizing the intricacies and scope for a professional interview with a notable figure or expert in a specific field of interest. For my interview, I choose to interview Professor Hameed Metghalch, tenured professor in the Northeastern College of Engineering and a technical expert in thermo- fluid systems. This plan outlines a discussion of automation technology in the aerospace industry.

Research Proposal

Research Design and Persuation

This assignment, the research proposal aimed to outline the details of how firsthand data/information will be collected, processed and aimed towards a specific goal that will attract specific stakeholders. I choose to outline plans for infrastructure development specifically for EV Scooters in Boston using sensor technology, CAD software and ML models as well as continued civil discourse will city officials.
